CMR Convention

CMR Convention
CMR Convention

The CMR Convention regulates the rules for the international carriage of goods by road.

It introduced and unified:

  • the terms of the contract for the carriage of goods,
  • documentation and carrier liability,
  • mode of complaints and claims,
  • carriage performed consecutively by several carriers.

It is applied when:

  • the place of shipment and delivery are in two different countries, at least one of which raffitiates conventions,
  • transports are carried out by government institutions and organizations.

Proof of contract is the CMR waybill, which must be in triplicate for:

  • shipper,
  • the carrier,
  • consignee (this copy accompanies the shipment).

The provisions of the CMR Convention, however, will not apply to shipments:

  • performed under international postal conventions,
  • corpses,
  • displaced property.

Upon acceptance of the goods, the carrier is obliged to check the consignment note data on the number of pieces, as well as their characteristics and numbers, and the visible condition of the goods and their packaging. If this is not possible, the carrier should ensure that reservations are added to the waybill, along with the reasons for them.
